Saturday nights is all about young adults.

At 6:00pm we have a bible study at the Laviers house.

Then at 7:30pm we get together to hit the town, whether it be going to Applebees for appetizers, going to play mini golf or just sitting down and having fun playing a game.

Whatever it is we do, we want you to join us.

These are nonnegotiable tenets of faith that all Assemblies of
God churches adhere to. This list is derived from the official

1. WE BELIEVE…
   The Scriptures are Inspired by God and declare His design
   and plan for mankind.
2. WE BELIEVE…
   There is only One True God–revealed in three
   persons…Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (commonly known as the
   Trinity).
3. WE BELIEVE…
   In the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. As God’s son Jesus
   was both human and divine.
4. WE BELIEVE… though originally good,
   Man Willingly Fell to Sin–ushering evil and death, both
   physical and spiritual, into the world.

   Every Person Can Have Restored Fellowship with God Through
   ‘Salvation’ (accepting Christ’s offer of forgiveness for

6. WE BELIEVE… and practice two
   ordinances—(1)
   Water Baptism by Immersion after repenting of one’s sins and
   receiving Christ’s gift of salvation, and (2)
   Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance
   of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation.
7. WE BELIEVE…
   the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Special Experience Following
   Salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and
   effective service, just as it did in New Testament times. [1 of
   4 cardinal doctrines of the A/G]
8. WE BELIEVE…
   The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit
   is ‘Speaking in Tongues,’ as experienced on the Day of
   Pentecost and referenced throughout Acts and the Epistles.
9. WE BELIEVE…
   Sanctification Initially Occurs at Salvation and is not only
   a declaration that a believer is holy, but also a progressive
   lifelong process of separating from evil as believers
   continually draw closer to God and become more Christlike.
10. WE BELIEVE…
    The Church has a Mission to seek and save all who are lost
    in sin. We believe ‘the Church’ is the Body of Christ and
    consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God’s
    offer of redemption (regardless of religious denomination)
    through the sacrificial death of His son Jesus Christ.
11. WE BELIEVE…
    A Divinely Called and Scripturally Ordained Leadership Ministry
    Serves the Church. The Bible teaches that each of us under
    leadership must commit ourselves to reach others for Christ, to
    worship Him with other believers, and to build up or edify the
    body of believers–the Church.
12. WE BELIEVE…
    Divine Healing of the Sick is a Privilege for Christians Today
    and is provided for in Christ’s atonement (His sacrificial death
    on the cross for our sins). [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the
    A/G]
13. WE BELIEVE…
    in The Blessed Hope—When Jesus Raptures His Church Prior to His
    Return to Earth (the second coming). At this future moment
    in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves
    and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive
    will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever. [1 of
    4 cardinal doctrines of the A/G]
14. WE BELIEVE…
    in The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with
    His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule
    over earth for 1,000 years. This millennial reign will bring the
    salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal
    peace.
15. WE BELIEVE…
    A Final Judgment Will Take Place for those who have rejected
    Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to
    eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire.
16. WE BELIEVE… and look forward to the
    perfect
    New Heavens and a New Earth that Christ is preparing for all
    people, of all time, who have accepted Him. We will live and
    dwell with Him there forever following His millennial reign on
    Earth. ‘And so shall we forever be with the Lord!’

We meet Sunday mornings at 10am at the Sherwood Middle School after outgrowing our building. We get there at 8:45am to start setting up for Sunday morning service so feel free to come early to help out or to just get to know us.

Saturday nights is all about our young adults. Starting at 6:00pm we get together for bible study then at 7:30pm we get together and hangout or go out into the night. We always meet at the Lifehouse at 7:30pm so if you want to part of our young adults we encourage you to come hang out with us.

Music and Worship are a large part of our DNA as a church. Come expecting a great experience as our worship band leads us into the presence of God.

We know you may or may not believe Jesus is God but we aren’t asking you to change to come to our church, we are simply inviting you to take part on a journey to get to know Jesus.

Our Sunday service starts at 10 AM at the Sherwood Middle School but we begin showing up around 8:45 to set up. Coffee and Donuts are always available before service, so come early and let us get to know you!

Jeff and Chris Dorothy have served as our Lead Pastors since Easter of 1990. Jeff’s responsibilities include overall leadership of our fellowship, preaching, teaching, and pastoral care. Pastor Jeff also participates in our worship times, singing and playing a number of instruments. Chris is a part of our worship team and supervises our children’s ministries and church office.

Along with leading the church Jeff enjoys shooting in cowboy action shooting and Chris is an avid photographer.

The Dorothy’s have been married 31 years. They have 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren.

• Arlen and Nora Peacock – Lifespring Pastors

Arlen and Nora Peacock serve as pastors leading Lifespring (Seniors Ministry) with an added emphasis on Families and Prayer. Arlen is a teacher and author, and Nora is a musician and is fluent in American Sign Language.

The Peacocks have been married for 40 years and have seven children and a number of grandchildren.

• Andrew and Lisa Lavier – Generation United Pastors

Andrew and Lisa Lavier are our Generation United Pastors (Young Adults, Jr and Sr High). They are leading our ministry to those from middle school and into the 30′s. The Laviers both served in our youth ministry before serving as youth pastors in Carlton, Oregon for 4 years.

Andrew and Lisa have been married 4 years and have a daughter who was born in September of 2007 and have another one along the way.

• Brian and Crystal Elliott – Next Generation Pastors

Brian and Crystal Elliott are our Next Generation Pastors (Kids Ministries). They lead a dedicated group of helpers who run a dynamic ministry called The Next Generation. This ministry reaches kids from age 3 through sixth grade.

The Elliotts have been married since July of 1985 and have three children.

At our church both genders are equally valued. Our women are encouraged to be all they can be and we do our best to create a safe place for them to step out and find their rightful place. Women are appreciated for their contributions as co-laborers with their brothers in Christ.

We have amazing women from various backgrounds and in different seasons, all with a unique story to tell. We?re here to build relationships and to share life’s triumphs and challenges, as we grow in the Lord. And, whenever it’s possible and appropriate, we have a blast doing it!

Heather and Crystal Elliott co-facilitate the ARMS meetings hosted by New Life. Heather has been with this ministry for over seven years. Last year Crystal completed the rigorous training process and now leads as well.

We also hold an annual Women’s Retreat which this year will be October 22-24 in Turner, Oregon, near Salem. Our keynote speaker is Patty Huenke, an awesome woman of God who has ministered at our church on numerous occasions and always has a powerful, timely word to share.

Heather and her husband, Glen, share the blessings and challenges of their growing, blended family. Although they are technically empty-nesters, they love to spend time with their four sons, daughter, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. Glen was recently named in Barron’s as one of the top financial advisors in the nation. He is the senior partner and owner of his own company. He also competes in triathlons and is currently training for the Canadian Ironman in August.

Heather enjoys her volunteer work at her awesome church. Along with women’s ministries and ARMS, she serves on the worship team and is an elder along with her husband. Her hobbies include guitar, books, and riding a tandem bicycle with Glen. It’s the one sport where she can keep up with him. They have an eight-year-old female German Shepherd named Chaucie.

Teach – Purposed to building men as they grow in their walk with the Lord, many groups will have a different approach, strategy or concept. The idea is to consistently encourage one another as ‘iron-sharpens-iron’ and always in training for the game plan God has given us through His Word.

Release – The Release Strategy leads and sends men for service to God, to the church and to the community. It is releasing men to live out their God-given purpose.

New Life Sherwood Men’s Group

We are about helping men walk in and fulfill the destiny God has for them.

“When I think of the word Agape I often time think of the Men’s Group at New Life Assembly in Sherwood. Monday’s Men’s Meeting is my favorite night of the week. My life has forever changed with the experiences I have had with the men in this group. It’s a place I can go to discuss any issue I may be facing. The Men are very supportive, kind and non judgmental. Whether I am there for the camaraderie or in need of guidance and prayer it is a place where I am safe. This is a place where you can share your burdens with other men who can relate and pray for reparation and healing, and it happens. I have seen Men successfully overcome issues that they couldn’t have on their own. I have seen Men physically healed while being prayed for. This is truly a time of peace and all men of any age or background can benefit from being there and stay grounded in the principles of the Bible as they relate to a man’s everyday life. LifeSpring serves senior adults, 60-ish and up.

At New Life Church we stress the “ish” part for qualifying as a senior, with a “Ya’ll come!” invitation for our monthly potlucks.

Anyone who wants to rub shoulders with our terrific seniors is also invited to join us for fellowship opportunities that include outings, video nights, and dinners out.

With a spring in our step, we live life to the fullest!

At New Life we have a passion for our children to learn the truth of God’s word and learn to apply it to their lives. Brian and Crystal Elliott have been our children’s pastors since 1997. Assisting them is Clinton Alley, who is about to be a father with his wife, Norma.

The Elliott’s children have grown up in children’s church and ministered alongside their parents. Their youngest daughter, Chelsea is a junior at Sherwood High and works with her parents in the children’s ministry. She is also an active participant in our youth ministry

Besides the Elliott’s and Clinton we have other helpers we know and trust to assist in the children’s ministries from time to time.

The children in this group range from age 4 through 12 and stay in the main service with their parents during worship with the adults. After worship they go to gym #2 right across the hall where they have a lesson, prayer, snack, and play games that relate to what they are learning that day.

Crystal is involved in our worship and prayer ministry. Brian and Clinton both participate in Triathlons. Chelsea runs track at the High School. The Elliott’s live in Sherwood, the Alleys in Newberg.

We currently meet at the Sherwood Middle School having outgrown our original church building several years ago.

At New Life there is something for everyone and everyone fits in.

From our Seniors ministry to our Kids ministry there is a way for everyone to serve and be part of New Life.
